Agility

There will be three agility trials at the ESSFTA National Specialty. Two All-breed trials will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 2nd and 3rd. The third Agility trial will be a English Springer Spaniel only trial held on Monday, October 4th.

Conformation and Sweepstakes

Sweepstakes will be judged by Sarah Munoz of Lexington, Kentucky. Sweepstakes will be judged on Wednesday, October 6th.

Conformation will be judged by Bettyann Hale of Cable, OH. Conformation classes will be start on Thursday, October 7th with Dogs, Followed by Bitches on Friday, October 8th and Best of Breed on Saturday, October 9th.

Obedience and Rally

There will be two Obedience and two Rally trials. The first Obedience trial will be on Wednesday, October 6th. The second trial will will be on Friday, October 8th. Both Rally trials will be on Thursday, October 7th and will consist of the Novice, Advanced, and Excellent classes. Team obedience will be offered on Saturday, October 9th.

Hunt Tests

Hunt Tests will be held on Tuesday, October 5th, at Bear Creek Pheasant Farm. The judges are Ron Carver of Astoria, OR and Jan Johnson of Sheridan, OR. There will be an entry limit of 25 dogs. Springers will have priority, but If the entry is not filled we will accept other breeds. Birds are tentatively set with pheasant for Master and Senior, and Chukar for Juniors.

Tracking Tests

Tracking Tests will be held on Sunday, October 3rd at the Bear Creek Phesant Farm in Cheshire, Oregon just outside of Eugene, Oregon. Their will be 4 Tracking Dog tests and 4 Tracking Dog Excellent tests. The judges will be Tannis Witherspoon and Suzanne Schwab.

Junior Handling

Junior Handling will be judged by Bettyann Hale on Saturday, October 9th.

Welcome Party

The ESSFTA National Specialty Welcome Party is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, October 5th. The Welcome Party is sponsored by The Springer Showcase.

Judges' Education

The Judges' Education seminar and ring-side mentoring is intended for individuals currently judging or applying to judge. Breeders and other interested parties are welcome to audit the seminar, but will not be able to have ringside mentoring.

Rescue Parade

The Rescue Parade is a highlight of the National Specialty. The Rescue Parade will be held on Saturday, October 9th, prior to Best of Breed judging. The Parade will be held in the conformation ring. Foundation Seminar

The ESSFTA Foundation will be sponsoring a presentation by Liz Hansen of the University of Missouri, Veterinary College Molecular Genetics Lab. The seminar will be early Wednesday evening at the Comfort Suites Hotel. The topic will be Health and Genetics.

Super Pet Competition

The Super Pet Competion will be held Thursday, October 7th. The competition is a fun way to interact with your dogs and others. The compeition includes: The Cookie Toss, The Dressing Race, Hot Dog Carry, Singing Springer, Retrieving Contest, and Costume. Please see the Super Pet Competition page for more information.

Blood Draws

Blood Draws to submit DNA to the ESSFTA DNA bank at the University of Missouri are scheduled for Thursday, October 7th and Friday, October 8th. The DNA is used for research into ESS genetic disorders such as seizures and PRA.
