Bettyann Hale

Bettyann and Tom Hale are Windmoor (AKC registered kennel) and they are actively involved in breeding and showing their English Springer Spaniels as well as judging.

As a child Bettyann brought home several “designer” dogs from the backyards of neighbors; however, her mother wasn’t a real dog person and found it very easy to find other homes for these animals. Bettyann vowed that some day dogs would be a big part of her life, not just a passing fancy. As an adult and after studying the various breeds and determining which one would be best for her, Bettyann purchased her first English Springer Spaniel in 1978 from Betty Quear of High Pride Kennels in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. “Sam” was an AKC registered, liver and white male and her loving companion for almost two years. Unfortunately, Sam started having epileptic seizures at about eighteen months of age and passed away before he was two years old.

In 1980 Bettyann purchased her first “show prospect” female from Tom Hale. She was a beautiful black and white puppy who finished her AKC championship by the time she was two years old with Bettyann at the end of the lead. This exciting experience lead to the addition of other puppies, numerous champions, wonderful litters, and even to the marriage of Bettyann and Tom in 1987. Since that time, Bettyann and Tom have bred to several different kennels which have had very positive affects on their breeding program. Bettyann’s main focus has been on breeding and raising puppies that reflect the Springer written standard, are competitive in the conformation ring, and are great companions for both show and pet homes.

Currently Bettyann is AKC approved to judge the entire Sporting Group, all Hound breeds except Greyhounds and Plotts, Junior Showmanship, and Best in Show. She is also active in a couple of all-breed clubs in Ohio.

In addition to her love of English Springer Spaniels, Bettyann has been working in the corporate world since 1971. During that time, she has worked as both an assistant and/or project manager to CEOs or Board Chairmen of both public and privately-held companies. She attended both the University of Pittsburgh as well as Baldwin Wallace College. She and Tom currently reside in Cable, Ohio.

Sarah Munoz

I began my involvement with dogs in 1964 when I was eight years old. I am originally from Evansville, Indiana but have lived in Lexington, Kentucky since 1973.

My parents had Brittany Spaniels. My dad was an avid hunter and used the dogs on rabbit and quail. I went hunting with him on several occasions. I wasn't a good partner for my dad because I couldn't stand to watch the little critters get hurt and I'd cry.

I was a 4-H member and soon started to bring the field dogs into the show ring. We had a male Ch. Redgy of Little Egypt that we occasionally specialed. I was his handler in 1969 and also showed him in Junior Showmanship. He was BB at the first Indianapolis, Indiana Brittany Spaniel Specialty in 1970. He was the sire of the BOW/BOS bitch that we bred and owned at that same show. I also had a Border Collie that I showed in Junior’s and put a CDX on by the time I was twelve.

I remember being behind Ch. Chinoe's Adament James in the group ring with Redgy at a show in Bloomington, Indiana dog show and thinking what a beautiful dog DJ was.

In 1980, my husband Roberto and I purchased our first Springer from Ed and Joanne Sellier that was sired by Ch. Sellier's Quarterback Sneak and out of Ch. Jahil’s Premier (Ch. Salilyn’s Classic x Ch. Jahil’s Anglica). We purchased a puppy from Maggie Madden after seeing Ch. Monogram's English Garden finish from the classes at the 1981 Louisville All Breed show. Ch. Monogram's Private Ivy (Rica) was out of Ch. Salilyn's Private Stock and Ch. Monogram's English Ivy

We have produced several dogs under the Alpine Kennel name with many special honors along the way.

  • 1989 ESSFTA Show Bitch of the year with Ch. Alpine’s Royal Park.
  • 1990 ESSFTA Show Springer and Show Bitch of the year.
  • 1994 ESSFTA Show Springer of the year with Ch. Alpine’s Moon Struck.

I love Springers and continue to breed on a limited bases. I am honored for the opportunity to judge the Sweepstakes at our National Specialty.

Pam Weaver

I have been involved in dog shows since grade school. I have been active in conformation, obedience, tracking, and now Rally.

I've always done my own training and showing. My Pug bitch "Cuddles" was the foundation bitch for the Weaver/Pamajo Pugs. She also was my first obedience dog, becoming the 2nd Pug to earn a UD. "Casey", my homebred, Group and Dog World Award winning champion with a U.D. was the 3rd pug to earn both titles. Our limited breeding program produced obedience titled Champions, Dog World Award, HIT, multiple group and BIS winners. Golden Retrievers entered the family when my son wanted a "big hairy dog" and have been with us for about 30 years.

I have been active in several dog clubs in a variety of capacities including Show and Trial Chairperson, was a multiple term board member of the Pug Dog Club of America, and a past president of DFA of Oregon. I have been judging since I graduated from college.

It seems that dogs have always been a part of my life. As a child growing up, I would visit the neighbors that had dogs so that I could play with them. Playing turned into training their dogs. That type of arrangement never lasts forever. I finally convinced Mom and Dad that I needed a dog of my own.

Fast forward a few years... my first AKC registered dog was an Airedale. Captain came to live with us in 1983. Being an Airedale, he taught me many, many things. It is sometimes a good thing that your first dog makes you work extra hard. Those of you that have owned terriers will understand. After attending classes for awhile Captain’s Novice scores were all above 195. I had the bug at that point.

We now have a German Shepherd, a Papillion and Border Terrier running around our house. I continue to show in Obedience and Agility along with my judging opportunities. Good Luck to all of you. Have a good time.

I’ve had dogs, almost exclusively bird dogs, all my life. In 1988 I got my first Springer Spaniel and hunted with her for many years. In 2000 I got my first competitive – level field bred Springer and began running in hunts tests and field trials. This dog earned his Master Hunter title in short order. Since then, I’ve owned and trained several more Springers and continue to run in hunt tests and compete in field trials. My passion in this sport is the training.

I enthusiastically support the AKC hunt test program because it provides structure and a great venue for people to train and show their dogs in the field. Best of luck to all entrants and I look forward to seeing your dogs.
