Super Pet Competition

The Super Pet Competition involves a series of contests that pit your team of handlers and dogs against others. Below are the descriptions of the various contest. We hope you will join us in this fun event that will keep you laughing.

The local chairperson for the Super Pet Competition is Carol Callahan. Carol can be contacted at (509) 927-5917 or donahan@aol.com

Cookie Toss

Participants will be divided into groups of up to 10 (depending on the entry). Dogs will be lined up facing their handler starting with a distance of 4 feet. On signal each handler will toss a small cookie to their dog. Each dog must catch the cookie in air. Those who miss will be eliminated. The remaining dogs will be moved further from the handler and another cookie tossed. With each successful catch, dogs will be moved further from the handler. The winner will be the dog who successfully catches a cookie from the greatest distance.

The Dressing Contest

Participants will be divided into teams of equal numbers. At the signal to go, dog and handler will race across the ring (dog can be either on or off lead) and the handler will dress the dog in a pair of shorts, t-shirt and 2 socks (rear feet only) and race back across the ring (off lead).

If the dog loses any article of clothing before crossing the finish line, dog and handler must go back across ring, put on the article of clothing and try to cross the finish line again. The winning team will be the first team to the finish line with all the clothes on their dog. Articles of clothing will be furnished by WVESSA.

Hot Dog Carry

Each dog/handler team will be given a whole wiener/hot dog. On command the handler will toss the hot dog across a predetermined line. The dog will then be sent off lead to retrieve the hot dog and called back to the handler. The handler can use any method to get the dog back with the hot dog, but will not be permitted to cross the start line. The winner will be the dog that returns the largest portion of the hot dog to its handler.

Singing Springer

Each participating dog will be asked to sing or “vocalize”. Winner will be determined by a vote of judges.

Retrieving Contest

This will be a timed event. The winning dog will be the dog with the shortest recorded time for retrieving an object of the handler’s choice; ie dumbbell, ball, toy. The object must be thrown the minimum distance as determined by the judge. Handler must provide their own object to retrieve.

Costume Contest

The winner will be chosen by applause of the spectators. Costumes must be provided by handlers.

Pooper Scooper Contest

If time allows, each handler will have a chance to toss a “pile” at a bull’s eye target. The winner will be the toss that lands closest to the bull’s eye.
